Basar Jnana Saraswati - A famous temple of Devi Saraswati

1. सरस्वति   नमस्तुभ्यं   वरदे   कामरूपिणि   ।
विद्यारम्भं   करिष्यामि   सिद्धिर्भवतु   मे   सदा   ॥

• Greatness:

Basar is primarily a Devi Saraswati Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Devi Saraswati):
- Devi Saraswati abides in Basar as Jnana Saraswati. Many children start their learning ceremony here known as Akshara Abhyasam. Special celebrations are held in this temple during Vasanth Panchami and Sharadiya Navaratri.

Basar is also a Rishi Sthalam (Place of Rishis):
- Sage Vyasa is said to have stayed here and meditated. Hence the name of the place is "Vasara" which later on became "Basara".

Basar is the place where the sacred river Godavari flows.

• Puranic Events:

Maharshi Vyasa staying: According to legend, Maharshi Vyasa stayed in this serene atmosphere of the ancient Dandaka forest after the Kurukshetra war. Since the Maharshi spent his time in prayers, the place came to be known as "Vasara" which later on became "Basara".
