Murugan: Sri Murugan vanquished demon Surapadman at Tiruchendur (an Arupadai Veedu Sthalam) with his Vel in a battle which lasted for six day.

- Note: This event is celebrated during the ten-day long festive celebration of Skanda Shasthi. The Surasamharan is the day when Muruga vanquished demon Surapadman. Tiruchendur is situated on the sea-shore unlike other famous Murugan temples which are normally situated on hills.
