Pilgrimages and Temples of Lord Narasimha
Introduction:
Lord Narasimha is the 4th incarnation among the ten major incarnations of Lord Vishnu (Dasavataras) who are widely remembered and quoted. Lord Narasimha is the 14th incarnation among the series of incarnations of Lord Vishnu mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatam. The major purpose of the incarnation of Lord Narasimha was to vanquish Hiranyakasipu and protect the words of his great devotee Prahlada that God is everywhere.
Lord Narasimha was the most fearsome incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the very sight of him roused fear among the demons. Demon Hiranyakasipu through long penance acquired great powers from the boon of Lord Brahma and declared himself to be the only God. He was an enemy of Lord Vishnu and was destined to die at the hands of the Lord. Devotee Prahlada, who consistently put his faith on the Lord and declared him to be the Supreme, was constantly tormented by his own father Hiranyakasipu. The anger of Narasimha was like the combined rage of the Lord due to these desplicable acts of Hiranyakasipu.
Demon Hiranyakasipu had put severe conditions for his death which will never take place under normal circumstances. These conditions and the power of Hiranyakasipu made him almost invincible. Lord Narasimha proved that the Lord can circumvent all conditions and nobody is the final ruler, however powerful he has become.
The incarnation of Lord Narasimha was a brief incarnation, but his impact is widespread. The fire of the energy of Lord Narasimha is symbolized as his idol and worshipped in various places. It is like a protective power and energy-giving power to sustain our lives.
