Sanakadi Kunda

Vindhyachala: Sanakadi Kunda:

(Aushanasa Purana - Vindhyachala Mahatmya - 17)

Meditation: I meditate on Lord Vishnu giving darshan to Sanakadi rishis after their penance.

Lord VishnuSanakadi rishis taking refuge of Lord Brahma for spiritual progress: One day, the Sanakadi rishis met Lord Brahma and said that the Chitta (Mind) is not entering Sattva-guna. The Trigunas (Sattva-Rajas-Tamas) are by nature impermanent. How can a Mumuksha (seeker of Moksha) become free from the knot of the Gunas?

Lord Brahma taking Sanakadi rishis to Vindhyachala: Lord Brahma took the Sanakadi rishis to Vindhyachala. He told them that he himself had obtained the power of creation by penance at Vindhyachala. The Saptarshis also obtained knowledge by performing penance there. Lord Brahma showed them the Narayana Kunda, Lakshmi Kunda and Saptarshi Kunda and told them the respective stories. Lord Brahma suggested them to create a kunda there and perform penance. He himself also engaged in penance.

Sanakadi rishis performing penance at Vindhyachala: The Sanakadi rishis created a big kunda there and started performing severe penance.

Bhagavan appearing in the form of Hamsha: By their penance, Bhagavan appeared in the form of Hamsha. The Sanakadi rishis and Lord Brahma bowed down to him. The Sanakadi rishis asked: "Who are you?" Bhagavan replied that: Brahman is present in everyone in the same way. The body made of Pancha Bhutas are also similar for everyone. Therefore the question "Who are you?" is of no use. The knot of Gunas in Chitta is eternal by nature. Let me explain how it can be separated. The knot which are real cannot be separated, but what appears as knots due to delusion gets removed by knowledge. Like rope appears as snake and oyster appears as silver. Vidya lead one towards Moksha and Avidya leads one towards bondage. By the explanation of Bhagavan, the doubts of Sanakadi rishis got cleared and they attained great peace.

Bhagavan appearing as Lord Vishnu: Then with the sound of conchshell, Bhagavan appeared as Lord Vishnu. He told them to ask for a boon. They said that they have obtained their fruits. A person enveloped in the Maya of Bhagavan cannot get liberated without the grace of Bhagavan. (Therefore, let them not get enveloped by His Maya). Also, let the kunda become famous in the world and those who bathe in it, let not durgati (bad state) befall on them. Bhagavan said that they will not forget the knowledge bestowed by him. They will move about in the state of liberation. Also, a person who bathes in the kunda will attain siddhi.
