Gokarna Kunda and Gokarneshwara Linga (Kameshwara)

Vindhyachala: Gokarna Kunda and Gokarneshwara Linga (Kameshwara):

(Aushanasa Purana - Vindhyachala Mahatmya - 20 to 21)

• Meditation: I meditate on Lord Shiva giving darshan to Gokarna deva after his penance.

• Gokarna deva visiting Teerthas and worshipping Lord Shiva: Gokarna deva left his residence for visiting the famous Teerthas. He visited various Teerthas and worshipped Lord Shiva and meditated on Shiva.

• Gokarna deva worshipping Lord Shiva in Vindhya Kshetra: In this way, visiting various Teerthas, Gokarna deva came to Vindhya Kshetra. Gokarna deva bowed down to Devi Mahamaya and saluted Her again and again. Then he visited the Tarakeshwara Kunda and worshipped Tarakeshwara Linga. Then he bathed in the Narayana Kunda and had the darshan of Narayaneshwara Linga. Thereafter, Gokarna created a kunda after his name towards the west of Marichi-Adi Kunda. Then he established the Gokarneshwara Linga and started worshipping it. His mind was absorbed in the Linga and three years elapsed.

• Lord Shiva giving darshan to Gokarna: Lord Shiva manifested from within that Linga and appeared before Gokarna. Lord Shiva told him to ask for a boon. Gokarna asked the boon that the Linga and Kunda become famous after his name and become the bestower of boons. Lord Shiva bestowed those boons and said that since the Gokarneshwara Linga will be the fulfiller of wishes, it will be known as Kameshwara. Lord Shiva then narrated the merits of that Kunda and Linga. Finally, Lord Shiva disappeared within the Linga itself.
