Brahma Kunda
Vindhyachala: Brahma Kunda:
(Aushanasa Purana - Vindhyachala Mahatmya - 15)
•
Meditation: I meditate on
Lord Vishnu giving darshan to Lord Brahma after his long penance.

•
Origin of Lord Brahma: When all the creation was destroyed and there was only waters, then Lord Brahma originated from the Lotus (from the navel of Lord Vishnu). Not seeing the Sun, Moon, mountains or trees (i.e. creation), Lord Brahma contemplated how he originated and who was his creator. Lord Brahma decided to go to the root of the Lotus stalk to find that.
•
Lord Brahma performing penance: When Lord Brahma was descending on the waters, he heard a voice that he should perform penance for thousand years. Lord Brahma performed penance for thousand years sitting on the Lotus.
•
Lord Brahma getting instruction for creation: After his penance was over, Lord Brahma heard the voice instructing him to start creation. Lord Brahma was a little confounded about whom he should create.
•
Appearance of demons Madhu and Kaitabha: When Lord Brahma was thus contemplating, he saw two terrible demons Madhu and Kaitabha. The demons challenged Lord Brahma for a battle. Lord Brahma became frightened and started descending on the waters by holding the stalk of the Lotus.
•
Lord Brahma seeing Lord Vishnu: While descending towards the water, Lord Brahma saw a great Purusha whose colour was like a cloud, who was wearing yellow robes, and who was having four arms. He was holding Shankha (Conch), Chakra (Discus), Gada (Mace) and Padma (Lotus) on his hands. On his neck was Kaustubha Mani, and on his chest was the sign of Srivatsa. He was lying on the bed of Sesha. Lord Brahma started contemplating what he should do. Then he woke up Lord Janardhana.
•
Lord Vishnu slaying demons Madhu and Kaitabha: Lord Vishnu woke up and fought with demons Madhu and Kaitabha for five thousand years. Within that fight the demons told that they should be slayed in a place where there is no water. Then Lord Vishnu took them on his lap and slayed them.
•
Creation of Earth: From the fat (Med) of Madhu and Kaitabha the Earth got created, hence the Earth is known as Medini.
•
Voice instructing Lord Brahma to perform penance in Vindhyachala: After that, Lord Brahma started contemplating that even though the Earth got created, how can he create the subjects. Then a voice instructed him to start creation. If he is unable to create, let him go to Vindhyachala and perform penance. The Vindhyachala region never really gets created or destroyed. It resides on the back of the Tortoise.
•
Lord Brahma performing penance in Vindhyachala: Lord Brahma then started going towards Vindhyachala. He started contemplating on whom he should meditate during the penance. Then the voice told that he should meditate on Sri Hari. Lord Brahma performed penance for ten thousand years (after creating a kunda).
•
Lord Vishnu giving darshan to Lord Brahma: Then Lord Vishnu gave darshan to Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma eulogized him. Lord Vishnu became pleased and told him to ask for a boon. Lord Brahma asked the power to create the subjects. Lord Vishnu granted the boon and said that the kunda will become famous after his name. By the power of penance in that kshetra, Lord Brahma created the Devas, Yakshas, Kinnaras, Gandharvas, Human beings, Apsaras, Nagas, Pashus, Pakshis, Daityas, Bhutas, Pishacas and Vrikshas.
