Vindhyachala: Akrodheshwara Linga:
(Aushanasa Purana - Vindhyachala Mahatmya - 36)
•
Meditation: I meditate on
Devi giving darshan to Akrodha muni after his long penance.

•
Akrodha muni performing penance in Vindhyachala on the bank of river Karnavati: Akrodha muni once pondered in his mind about: How to live in this samsara with this body which has several enemies like kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya as well as other enemies? He does not possess the knowledge by which he can see things as they are. He remembered that Devi Chandika can delude the minds of even Jnanis towards Moha. Therefore, the Devi needs to be worshipped. Akrodha muni started reciting the Saraswati Mantra and read the Saptashati for several years. He also recited the Navakshara Navarnamantra during the start and end of the Saptashati. In this way, Akrodha muni recited the name of Chandika (performed Japa) for a large number of times.
•
Devi giving darshan to Akrodha muni: Then Devi Vindhyavasini appeared there riding on a lion. She told Akrodha muni to ask for a boon. Akrodha muni eulogized the Devi with Stotra. Then he asked the boon of knowledge and steadfast devotion to the feet of Devi with mind which has conquered the Indriyas. Devi granted the boon and bestowed Brahmajnana to Akrodha muni and the disposition (mati) to understand the essence of the Shastras.
•
Akrodha muni establishing city and Akrodheshwara Linga: Akrodha muni established a place there after his name and a Shiva Linga known as Akrodheshwara Linga.
