Gaya: Lord Vishnu and Devas steadying Gayasura and giving boons:

(Vayu Purana - 106)

• Meditation: I meditate on Lord Adi-Gadadhara abiding in Gaya.

• Lord Vishnu standing on Gayasura: When Gayasura moved even after fixing the Image of Lord Vishnu on the Dharma Shila, Lord Brahma invoked Lord Vishnu again. Lord Vishnu came from the Milky Ocean and stationed himeself on the Dharma Shila with the name of Janardhana and Pundarikaksha.

• Lord Brahma standing on Gayasura: Lord Brahma divided himself into five and stood on Gayasura. They are Prapitamaha (Great-Grandfather), Pitamaha (Grandfather), Phalgavisha (Lord of Phalgu), Kedara and Kanakeshwara.

• Sri Vinayaka standing on Gayasura: The elephant-faced Vinayaka stood on Gayasura.

• Sri Surya deva standing on Gayasura: Surya deva stood on Gayasura in the form of Gayaditya, Uttararka and Dakshinarka.

• Tri-Devis standing on Gayasura: Devi Lakshmi stood on Gayasura with the name of Sita. Devi Gauri stood on Gayasura with the name of Mangala. Devi Saraswati stood on Gayasura in three forms - Gayatri, Savitri and Sandhya.

• Devas standing on Gayasura: Indra, Brihaspati, Pusha, Ashta Vasus, Vishwedevas, two Ashwins, Maruts, Yakshas, Uragas and Gandharvas stood on Gayasura along with their respective Shaktis.

• Lord Vishnu becoming known as Adi-Gadadhara: Since Hari stood on Gayasura and steadied him with his Gada (Mace), he became known as Adi-Gadadhara.

• Gayasura speaking to Gods: Gayasura told the Gods that for what purpose has he been tricked? (by trying to steady him even after completion of the Yagna) He had offered his body for Yagna. He would have made himself steady if Lord Vishnu had asked him to do so. Instead he was tormented by the Devas and Hari with his Gada. Let the Devas be happy.

• Lord Vishnu granting boon to Gayasura: Lord Vishnu and the Devas said that they are happy and told Gayasura to ask for a boon. Gayasura asked the boon that as long as the Earth lasts, let Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara stay on the Shila along with the other Devas. Let the kshetra be named after him. Let Gaya Kshetra extend upto five krosas and Gayashira extend upto one krosha. In the center of that, let all the Teerthas reside. If anyone takes bath, performs Tarpana and Pinda-Dana, they will become Mahatma and redeem their lineage. Lord Vishnu and others granted the boon and said that Gayasura will attain the highest state. Gayasura became happy and steady.
