Lord Brahma cursing brahmanas
Gaya: Lord Brahma cursing brahmanas:
(Vayu Purana - 106)
•
Meditation: I meditate on
Lord Adi-Gadadhara abiding in Gaya.

•
Lord Brahma making offerings to the brahmanas: When Gayasura became steady and the Devas were stationed over him, Lord Brahma offered fifty-five villages and the Gaya kshetra extending upto five kroshas to the brahmanas. Lord Brahma also created divine buildings equipped with all necessary things. He also offered the Kamadhenu, Kalpavriksha, Parijata and other trees. He also created rivers flowing with milk, ghee (Ghritakulya) and honey (Madhushrava and Madhukulya), and lakes filled with curds. He created ponds of gold and hills filled with food. When he offered these to the brahmanas he told them not to beg from others.
•
Brahmanas begging for more: However, when the brahmanas officiated as priests of Dharma in his sacrifice at Dharmaranya, they begged out of greed.
•
Lord Brahma cursing the brahmanas: Lord Brahma said that inspite of giving them everything, they wished for more. Hence they will always be under debts. The rivers (of ghee, honey etc.) with only flow with water. The hills containing food will turn into hills of rocks. Their abodes will be made of mud only. When the brahmanas begged for something for sustaining their livelihood, Lord Brahma sympathetically told them that they will sustain their livelihood by means of tirthas (as long as the Sun and the Moon shine). Those who perform their shraddha in Gaya will attain Brahmaloka. When they adore you, I will be considered adored.
