King Bali conquering Heaven

Heaven: King Bali conquering Heaven:

(Srimad Bhagavatam - Skanda 8 - 15)

Vamana AvataraMeditation: I meditate on the Vamana Avatara of Lord Vishnu.

King Bali conquering Heaven: King Bali was defeated by Indra and killed in the battle. He was revived by the Bhrigus (headed by Shukracharya). Bali served his teachers with great sincerity. The Bhrigus became pleased with Bali who was intent on conquering the Heaven. The Bhrigus made him perform the Vishwajit Yagna. Out of the Yagna came out a divine Chariot (Ratha), a Bow (Dhanu), a never-exhaustible Quiver (Tuna) and an Armour (Kavacha). Grandfather Prahlada presented him with an unfading Garland (Mala), and Shukracharya a Conch (Jalaja). Bali invaded Heaven. King Indra and the Devas after deliberating with guru Brihaspati left Heaven disguised in different forms, because Bali was unconquerable during that time. Bali, the son of Virochana, making Heaven the capital, ruled over the three worlds. Shukracharya made Bali perform hundred Horse Sacrifices (Hayamedha or Ashwamedha Yagnas) for the retention of the power. Due to the Horse Sacrifices, the reputation of Bali spread in the three worlds.
