Incarnation of Lord Vamana

Aditi Ashrama: Incarnation of Lord Vamana:

(Srimad Bhagavatam - Skanda 8 - 17 to 18)

Vamana AvataraMeditation: I meditate on the Vamana Avatara of Lord Vishnu.

Incarnation of Lord Vamana: Sage Kashyapa already came to know about this through samadhi. The sage also felt that Sri Hari had entered into him. He transmitted the virility to Devi Aditi. When the Lord appeared in the womb of Devi Aditi, Lord Brahma extolled the Lord. The Lord first manifested in His divine form wearing Yellow clothes (Pishanga-Vasa) and having four Hands (Catur-Bhuja). The Lord was holding the Conch (Shankha), Mace (Gada), Abja (Lotus) and Discus (Chakra). He had Dark (Shyama) complexion. His face shone with fish-marked Ear-Rings (Kundala). He had the Srivatsa mark on His chest and wore the Kaustubha gem on his neck. He wore Bracelets (Balaya), Armlets (Angada), Diadem (Kirita), Girdle (Kanchi) and Anklets (Nupura). The Lord was born on the auspicious time of Abhijit, on Shravana-Dwadashi, when the moon dwelt on the Shravana constellation. The Lord was born during midday and this Dwadashi is known as Vijaya-Dwadashi. The celestials played music, danced and showered flowers on the Ashrama of Devi Aditi. Hari was born in a divine form so that his divine identity is recognized by all. Then he transformed himself before the eyes of all into a short-statured Brahmacharin (Vamana). The sages headed by sage Kashyapa conducted his post-natal ceremonies and performed his Upanayana. During the Upanayana ceremony:

- The Sun-god (Savita) uttered the Gayatri Mantra
- Brihaspati invested Him with the Sacred Thread (Brahma-Sutra)
- Sage Kashyapa gave Him a Grass Belt or Girdle (Mekhala)
- Mother Earth (Bhoomi) gave Him a black Deer-Skin (Krishna-Ajina)
- Moon-god (Soma) gave Him a Staff (Danda)
- Mother Aditi gave Him the Loin-Cloth (Kaupina)
- Sky-Deity (Dyau) gave Him an Umbrella (Chatra)
- Lord Brahma gave Him the Water-Pot (Kamandalu)
- Saptarshis gave Him Kusha Grass
- Devi Saraswati gave Him String of Beeds (Aksha-Mala)
- Kubera gave Him a Begging Bowl (Patrika)
- Devi Uma gave Him Bhiksha

Lord Vamana then lit a sacrificial Fire and worshipped the Fire.
(Srimad Bhagavatam - Skanda 08 - 17 to 18)
