Vrindavana: Sri Krishna freeing river Yamuna from poisonous serpent Kaliya:

(Srimad Bhagavatam - Skanda 10 - 16)

• Meditation: I meditate on Sri Krishna freeing river Yamuna from the poisonous serpent Kaliya.

• Sri Krishna freeing river Yamuna from poisonous serpent Kaliya: Sri Krishna freed river Yamuna from poisonous serpent Kaliya. To subdue Kaliya, one day Sri Krishna climbed a high Kadamba tree and jumped inside the water of river Yamuna. Sporting inside the water, Sri Krishna finally came face to face with that dreadful serpent. Kaliya bit the Lord on the chest and encircled Him within his coils. For sometime Sri Krishna remained motionless. Seeing this, the cowherd men and women who had assembled on the river bank became filled with sorrow. Seeing their distress Sri Krishna enlarged His body and freed Himself from the coils of Kaliya. Then He subdued Kaliya and danced over its hoods. All the celestial beings assembled to see this divine spectacle and danced with Sri Krishna. Finally the wives of Kaliya and Kaliya himself surrendered to the Lord and asked for forgiveness. Sri Krishna told Kaliya to leave the river and go to the sea with the entire family. Sri Krishna told Kaliya to go back to the Ramanaka Island which he formerly left due to the fear of Garuda. Now Garuda will not harm him since the footprints of the Lord has been imprinted on his head. When Kaliya left, the water of river Yamuna got restored to its original purity.
