Sri Krishna killing Kalayavana through Muchukunda

Mathura: Sri Krishna killing Kalayavana through Muchukunda:

(Srimad Bhagavatam - Skanda 10 - 51 to 52)

• Meditation: I meditate on Sri Krishna killing Kalayavana through Muchukunda in the outskirts of Mathura.

• Sri Krishna killing Kalayavana through Muchukunda: After Sri Krishna had established Dwaraka and transported the residents there, he went to Mathura and went out of the city to meet Kalayavana without any weapons and wearing only a garland of lotus flowers. Kalayavana saw Sri Krishna without any weapons and decided to fight with him weaponless. Sri Krishna pretended to run away from Kalayavana and made Kalayavana chase him. Sri Krishna took Kalayavana to a distant mountain cave where king Muchukunda was sleeping. Kalayavana mistook Muchukunda as Sri Krishna and kicked him. Muchukunda woke up from his long sleep and saw Kalayavana. The moment his glance fell on Kalayavana, Kalayavana was reduced to ashes.

• Story of king Muchukunda: Muchukunda was a king in the line of the Ikshwakus and was the son of Mandhata. He was devoted to brahmanas and truth. Once Indra deva requested king Muchukunda to give protection against the Asuras. King Muchukunda gave protection to the Devas for a long time. When Guha (Skanda) became the commandar-in-chief of the army of the Devas, they relieved king Muchukunda of his onerous duty and being pleased with him, told him to ask for a boon. By that time, a long interval of time had passed, and all the family members and relatives of king Muchukunda had passed away. King Muchukunda asked the boon of sleep. The Devas granted the boon and said that if anyone wakes him up, that person will be reduced to ashes. Muchukunda thus entered the cave and fell asleep. (He was sleeping for a long time till Kalayavana woke him up)

• Sri Krishna giving boon to Muchukunda: Sri Krishna then revealed to Muchukunda his divine form as Lord Vishnu with four arms, wearing yellow cloth, with Srivatsa mark on chest and Kaustubha jewel on his neck. Muchukunda eulogized the Lord. Sri Krishna told him to practice austerities and destroy his sins of killing many animals during hunting. In another birth, he will attain to His abode.

• Muchukunda performing austerities at Badaryashrama: King Muchukunda went to the Gandhamadana mountain and staying at Badaryashrama, started to perform austerities there.
