Sri Krishna defeating the army of Jarasandha seventeen times in Mathura: When Kamsa was killed by Sri Krishna, his sorrow-stricken wives Asti and Prapti reported this to their father Jarasandha. Jarasandha in anger attacked Mathura with seventeen Akshauhinis of army. Sri Krishna though in his mind that he will destroy the army of Jarasandha but leave him alive so that he will return in future with more army. Their destruction will reduce the burden of the earth. Sri Krishna invoked two chariots from heaven which had all the weapons inside them. Mounting on those chariots, Sri Krishna and Balarama destroyed the army of Jarasandha. They captured Jarasandha and released him. Jarasandha led seventeen expeditions in Mathura, each time with seventeen Akshauhinis of army. Everytime Sri Krishna and Balarama destroyed his army but left him alive.
