Sri Krishna lifting the Govardhana Hill and sheltering the people
Govardhana: Sri Krishna lifting the Govardhana Hill and sheltering the people:
(Srimad Bhagavatam - Skanda 10 - 25)

•
Meditation: I meditate on
Sri Krishna lifting the
Govardhana Hill and protecting the people of Vraja from the fury of rains unleashed by Indra. When Indra saw that the cowherd men had stopped his worship, he became very angry. Indra asked the wind and rain gods to let loose the fury of rains and submerge Vrindavana to teach a lesson to the cowherd men. Heavy rain ensued which created a havoc in Vrindavana submerging the lands. All took refuge in Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna lifted the Govardhana Hill with one hand and told the people of Vrindavana to take shelter under it. For seven days Sri Krishna held up the Govardhana Hill and provided shelter to the people and the cattle of Vrindavana. Seeing this divine play, the pride of Indra (of being the supreme controller) was shattered and he stopped the rains.
