Sri Narada seeing Lord Varaha at Sumeru Parvata

(Skanda Purana - Venkatachala Mahatmya - 1)

• Sri Narada seeing Lord Varaha at Sumeru Parvata: During Devayuga once Sri Narada went to the peak of Sumeru Parvata. There he first saw the abode of Lord Brahma. On the northern side of that abode was a fig tree. The tree was several yojanas high and twice that in area. At the base of that tree was a hall. The hall was studded with gems and had thousand pillars. Sri Narada went inside the hall. He saw a pearl-studded chamber. He got up onto a platform standing on eight legs. On the platform was a throne studded with pearls. On the throne was a thousand-petalled white lotus. On the lotus was seated Lord Varaha.

• Description of Lord Varaha: Lord Varaha, the Supreme Purusha, shone like million moons. He was huge and appeared like mount Kailasha. He had the splendid face of a boar. He had four hands. He was holding Shankha and Chakra with two of His hands. With the other two hands He was showing the Abhaya and Vara mudras. He was clad in yellow clothes. His eyes were like lotus. He had a diadem on His head. His appearance was like a Yagnamurti. He was chanting Samaveda. His face had the fragrance of incense. His snout was like the Sruc ladle of the yagna, and His nose was like the Sruva ladle. He was wearing the yagnopavita (sacred thread). His chest had the mark of Srivatsa and had the Kaustubha jewel. He was adorned with various ornaments. His left foot was placed on a foot-stool. He was surrounded by Lord Brahma, devas like Indra, Gandharvas and Apsaras, as well as by eminent sages like Vasistha, Atri, Markandeya and Bhrigu. Sri Narada eulogized Lord Varaha with mantras from the Upanishads.
