Appearance of Panchaganga in Kashi
Kashi: Appearance of Panchaganga:
(Skanda Purana - Kashi Khanda - 59)

•
Meditation: I meditate on Kashi which bestows liberation.
1. Dhutapapa, the daughter of sage Vedasiras performed penance in Kashi. She became river
Dhutapapa (story of encounter with Dharma).
2. Dharma became tank
Dharmanada.
3. Before the advent of Ganga, the Sun god performed penance at Dharmanada and river
Kirana issued from his sweat.
4. At Prayaga, rivers
Ganga,
Yamuna and
Saraswati joined. They combined with rivers
Dhutapapa and
Kirana at Dharmanada and became
Panchaganga.
