Kashi to Vindhya: Sage Agastya leaving Kashi and making Vindhya short:

(Skanda Purana - Kashi Khanda - 5)

• Meditation: I meditate on Kashi which bestows liberation.

• Sage Agastya leaving Kashi: Sage Agastya felt sad at the thought of leaving Kashi. He remembered the saying that there will be obstacles for persons living in Kashi. Sage Agastya recounted the saying of sage Jabali that river Asi is the Ida and river Varana is the Pingala and in between these is the Avimukta (Sushumna). Sage Agastya bowed to Lord Kalabhairava, Dhundhi Vinayaka and Devi Vishalakshi and left Kashi with wife Lopamudra after circumambulating it.

• Sage Agastya making Vindhya short: Sage Agastya reached the Vindhya Mountain. Vindhya Mountain trembled with fear and became dwarf-like in stature. Sage Agastya commanded the Vindhya Mountain to remain short in stature till he returns. The path of the Sun God got cleared. The Vindhya Mountain expected the sage to return, but the sage did not return after that.
