Avanti Kshetra: Greatness of Vimaloda Teertha:

(Skanda Purana - Avanti Kshetra Mahatmya - 55)

Devi

• Meditation: I meditate on Devi Vindhyavasini residing in the Vimaloda Teertha of Avanti Kshetra.

• River Reva flooding the earth: Once the earth was flooded by the waters of river Reva.

• Devas taking refuge of sage Agastya: The devas propitiated sage Agastya and took his refuge to bring relief to the earth.

• Sage Agastya propitiating Devi Vindhyavasini: Sage Agastya went to the Vindhya mountain and propitiated Devi Vindhyavasini by eulogizing her with a concentrated mind.

• Devi Vindhyavasini giving boons and Vimaloda Teertha: Devi Vindhyavasini appeared before sage Agastya and told him to ask for a boon. Sage Agastya requested her to restrain river Reva. Devi restrained river Reva. She also told that the Vindhya mountain will not grow till the sage remains in the Trikuta Dwara for the work of the devas.

Then she told that she will stay in Kushasthali (Avanti) for a long time along with the Matris. The place where the Devi abided in Kushasthali is the Vimaloda Teertha which grants boons to those who take holy bath with a concentrated mind.
