(Skanda Purana - Arunachala Mahatmya - 2)

ShivaLord Shiva manifesting as Arunachala Mountain: Brahma and Vishnu praised Lord Shiva Who was in the form of the Infinite Taijasha Linga. Shiva became pleased and told them to ask for a boon. They requested Lord Shiva to manifest in a visible form so that devas, siddhas, ordinary human beings and others could worship Him and become blessed. Lord Shiva granted the boon and manifested as Sona-Shaila, the great Arunachala Mountain.

Pilgrimage: Thiruvannamalai The place of the manifestation of the Arunachala Mountain is identified with Thiruvannamalai in the Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu.
