Prayaga: Prajapati Kshetra and various Teerthas:
(Matsya Purana - 41, 104 to 110)

Meditation: I meditate on Prayaga which is a Prajapati Kshetra.
Prajapati Kshetra:
• The region of Prayaga from Pratishthanapura to the Vasuki Hrada is known as Prajapati Kshetra. The Nagas like Kambala and Ashwatara reside in Prayaga.

Yagna Kundas:
• There are five (Yagna) Kundas in Prayaga where Ganga resides.

• There are three Agni Kundas through which river Ganga flows through Prayaga.

Samudra Koopa: On the eastern side of river Ganga there is a Samudra Koopa (Oceanic Well) which is near Pratishthana.

Hamsa Prapatana Teertha: On the north of Pratishthana and on the eastern side of river Ganga there is a famous Teertha known as Hamsaprapatana.

Urvashi Teertha: One who performs oblations in Urvashi Teertha earns great merit.

Dashashwamedha Teertha: Near the Bhogavati and north of Vasuki is the Dashashwamedha Teertha.

Manasa Teertha: On the northern bank of river Ganga is the Manasa Teertha.

Rinamochana Teertha: On the south of Prayaga and on the northern bank of river Yamuna is the Rinamochana Teertha.

Agni Teertha: On the southern bank of river Yamuna is the Agni Teertha.

Naraka Teertha (or
Haravara Teertha): On the western bank of river Yamuna is the Naraka Teertha (or Haravara Teertha) of Dharmaraja.

Niranjana Teertha (or
Viraja Teertha): On the northern bank of Yamuna is the Niranjana Teertha (or Viraja Teertha) of Aditya.

Bhogavati Teertha: The Bhogavati Teertha is the (Yagna) Vedi of Prajapati. There the Vedas and Yagnas assume embodied forms. The Rishis perform yagnas there. The Chakravarti kings perform yagnas there.

• Samudra Koopa: On the eastern side of river Ganga there is a Samudra Koopa (Oceanic Well) which is near Pratishthana.
• The Samudra Koopa or the Oceanic Well is a wondrous well in Prayagraj. The water of this well is salty like the sea water.
