(Brahmanda Purana - 46)

Lord Parashurama

• Meditation: I meditate on the Parashurama Avatara of Lord Vishnu.

• Parashurama hearing about his father's death: After completion of the penance of twelve years on the Mahendra mountain, while Parashurama was returning, he heard the account of the death of his parents from the sages. He was miserable. Akritavana somehow consoled him. Parashurama returned and stayed with his brothers for three days. Then the fierce wrath within him roused. He reaffirmed his vow of killing the kshatriyas. He also resolved to perform the libations of his parents with the blood of their bodies.

• Parashurama destroying the kshatriyas in Mahishmati: Resolving thus, Parashurama went to Mahishmati accompanied by Akritavana. Then he invoked his chariot from Indra deva. He took up his bow and blew his conch. The kings were agitated but came forward for a battle. Parashurama defeated them and killed a hundred kings along with their armies. Then with a missile, he burnt the city of Mahishmati.
