7.1. Drona Parva - Dronabhisheka Parva (Chapters 1–16)

Ch 1: Kauravas remembering Karna: Kauravas grieving due to Bhishma. Kauravas remembering Karna.

Ch 2: Karna going to battlefield: Karna motivating the Kauravas saying that he will either slay the Pandavas or be slain by them and attain the region of the heroes. Karna going to the battlefield.

Ch 3: Karna going to Bhishma: Karna going to Bhishma and describing the prowess of Arjuna. Then asking permission from Bhishma to fight with Arjuna and Pandavas.

Ch 4: Bhishma encouraging Karna: Bhishma encouraging Karna telling about his previous great deeds in conquering powerful kings for Duryodhana. Bhishma telling Karna to be a shelter for Duryodhana and fight for victory. Seeing Karna, there was joy among Kauravas.

Ch 5: Karna proposing Dronacharya as commander: Duryodhana asking Karna to select a commander (senapati) for the army. Karna proposing the name of Dronacharya.

Ch 9: Dhritarashtra asking Sanjaya for details of war: Dhritarashtra lamenting and wanting to know the details of the war which lead to the death of Dronacharya.

Ch 10: Dhritarashtra questioning Sanjaya for details of war: Dhritarashtra questioning Sanjaya about the details of the battle.

Ch 11: Greatness of Sri Krishna: Dhritarashtra telling about the greatness and achievements of Sri Krishna.

Ch 12: Drona giving boon to capture Yudhishthira alive: Drona wishing to give boon to Duryodhana for making him the general. Duryodhana asking the boon of capturing Yudhishthira alive so that he can again beat him in the game of dice. Duryodhana promising provided Arjuna is removed from the battle.

7.2. Drona Parva - Samsaptaka-Vadha Parva (Chapters 17–32)

Ch 17: [Day 12] Vow of Samsaptakas: [Day 12] Susharma (Trigartas) and others Samsaptakas taking vows to either slay Arjuna or be slain. Samsaptakas summoning Arjuna to the southern part of the field for fight. Arjuna leaving Yudhishthira under the protection of Satyajit.

Pandavas attacking Drona. Fight between Arjuna and Karna. Arjuna slaying the brothers of Karna (Shatrunjaya, Vitapa). Dhrishtadyumna slaying Chandravarman and Vrihatkshata. Pandavas jointly attacking Karna. Satyaki afflicting Karna. Kauravas rescuing Karna. End of 12th day's battle.

7.3. Drona Parva - Abhimanyu-Vadha Parva (Chapters 33–71)

Ch 33: Drona promising to slay a Maharathi: Duryodhana accusing Drona of being lenient towards Yudhishthira in not capturing him. Drona refuting it and promising to slay a foremost car-warrior (rathi) if Arjuna is removed elsewhere. The Shamsaptakas again challenging Arjuna and taking him away. Drona forming an impenetrable vyuha. Abhimanyu entering that vyuha and succumbing. Dhritarashtra asking Sanjaya to narrate the details.

Ch 34: Drona creating Chakra-Vyuha: Drona creating Chakra-Vyuha. Fight between Pandavas and Kauravas.

Ch 35: Drona advancing. Yudhishthira telling Abhimanyu to break the Vyuha: Drona afflicting the Pandavas and advancing towards Yudhishthira. Yudhishthira telling Abhimanyu to break that Vyuha. Abhimanyu telling that Arjuna taught him how to enter that vyuha but he does not know how to come out of it. Yudhishthira telling him to enter that vyuha and make an opening so that the Pandava army will follow him. Abhimanyu taking a vow to destroy the Kauravas.

Ch 36: Abhimanyu entering the Vyuha. Kauravas surrounding him: [Day 13] Abhimanyu advancing towards Drona and the Kauravas fighting with him. Abhimanyu breaking through the vyuha and entering inside it. The Kauravas surrounding him. Abhimanyu crushing the Kaurava army. Kauravas fleeing.

Ch 37: Abhimanyu defeating Duryodhana, Karna, Shalya and slaying many: [Day 13] Abhimanyu defeating Duryodhana and afflicting the Kauravas. Abhimanyu slaying son of Ashmaka, Sushena, Dirghalochana and Kundabhedin. Abhimanyu defeating Karna and making Shalya unconscious. Kaurava army fleeing.

Ch 38: Abhimanyu slaying brother of Shalya: [Day 13] Abhimanyu slaying the brother of Shalya. Making the army retreat.

Ch 39: Dushshasana fighting with Abhimanyu: [Day 13] Drona praising the prowess of Abhimanyu. Duryodhana becoming angry. Duryodhana telling Dushshasana to slay Abhimanyu. Fight between Dushshasana and Abhimanyu.

Ch 40: Abhimanyu defeating Dushshasana and Karna: [Day 13] Abhimanyu reminding Dushshasana about his previous misdeeds. Abhimanyu making him swoon. Fight between Karna and Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu defeating Karna.

Ch 41: Abhimanyu slaying brother of Karna: [Day 13] Karna's brother coming to fight with Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu slaying him. Karna fleeing. Abhimanyu wrecking havoc on the Kauravas.

Ch 42: Jayadratha checking Pandavas from entering Vyuha: [Day 13] When Pandavas were following Abhimanyu inside the vyuha, Jayadratha single-handedly checking them. Previously Jayadratha performing penance after being humilated by Bhima during abduction of Draupadi. Jayadratha getting a boon from Lord Shiva that he can single-handedly check the Pandavas except Arjuna.

Ch 43: Jayadratha checking Pandavas from entering Vyuha: [Day 13] Jayadratha single-handedly checking the Pandavas from entering the vyuha due to the boon from Mahadeva.

Ch 44: Abhimanyu slaying Vasatiya: [Day 13] Abhimanyu slaying Vasatiya. Abhimanyu continuing to slay the Kaurava army.

Ch 45: Abhimanyu slaying Satyashrava and Rukmaratha (son of Shalya): [Day 13] Abhimanyu slaying Satyashrava and destroying his army. Abhimanyu slaying Rukmaratha, the son of Shalya. Abhimanyu confounding the followers of Rukmaratha with Gandharva astra and slaying them. Abhimanyu defeating Duryodhana and making him flee.

Ch 46: Abhimanyu slaying Lakshmana (son of Duryodhana) and Kratha: [Day 13] Abhimanyu slaying Lakshmana (son of Duryodhana) and Kratha. Abhimanyu making the six Maharathis flee.

Ch 47: Abhimanyu fighting with six Maharathis surrounding him: [Day 13] Abhimanyu fighting with six Maharathis (Drona, Kripa, Karna, Ashwathama, Brihadbala and Kritavarman) who surround him. Abhimanyu slaying Vrindaraka and Brihadbala.

Ch 48: Maharathis destroying bow and chariot of Abhimanyu: [Day 13] Fight between Karna and Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu slaying the six ministers of Karna. Abhimanyu slaying Ashwaketu, a Bhoja prince, Shatrunjaya, Chandraketu, Meghavega, Suvarchasam and Suryabhasa. Karna asking Drona the means of slaying Abhimanyu. Drona praising Abhimanyu and saying that there is no weakness in him. Only if Karna can destroy his bow, horses and supporting flanks and make him turn back, can be be slain from behind. Karna cutting the bow of Abhimanyu, Kritavarman slaying the horses and Kripa destroying the flank supporters. Then six Maharathis showering arrows on Abhimanyu. Ch 49: Maharathis cutting wheel of Abhimanyu. Dushshasana's son slaying Abhimanyu with mace: [Day 13] The Maharathis cutting the wheel of Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu taking a mace and destroying the chariot of Ashwathama. Then slaying Kalikeya, seventy-seven Gandhara warriors and many others. Fight with Dushshasana's son and Abhimanyu with mace. Dushshasana's son slaying Abhimanyu with his mace.

Ch 50: End of 13th day of battle: [Day 13] End of the 13th day of battle. The scene of massacre on the battle-field.

Ch 51: Yudhishthira lamenting: Yudhishthira lamenting for the death of Abhimanyu.

Ch 52: Sage Vyasa arriving. Telling Yudhishthira about Death: Sage Vyasa arriving. Yudhishthira asking about the origin of Death (Mrityu). Sage Vyasa telling the story of king Akampana and sage Narada.

Ch 53: Story of origin of Death (Mrityu): Conversation between Shankara and Brahma. Birth of Death (Mrityu) from the wrath of Brahma. Mrityu having a female form. She was tasked by Lord Brahma to bring death to people. Mrityu hesitating.

Ch 54: Story of Death continuing: Mrityu performing great penance. Brahma giving her boon. End of conversation between Narada and Akampana. Sage Vyasa saying that death is ordained for everyone and Abhimanyu has attained heaven. Yudhishthira asking about the tales of great persons. Sage Vyasa continuing.

Ch 55: Start of the story of 16 great kings. Story of king Maruttaka: Start of the story of 16 great kings who though great still had to face death. King Srinjaya getting a son by the grace of sage Narada. Dashyus killing the son of Srinjaya. Srinjaya grieving for his son. Sage Narada telling Srinjaya the story of 16 great kings who had to undergo death inspite of their great deeds.

7.4. Drona Parva - Pratignya Parva (Chapters 72–84)

Ch 72: Arjuna coming to know about slaying of Abhimanyu: Arjuna seeing evil portents while returning from the battle-field. Seeing grief in the Pandava camp and not seeing Abhimanyu, Arjuna understanding the cause. Arjuna becoming despondent and filled with anger due to the death of Abhimanyu.

Ch 73: Vow of Arjuna to slay Jayadratha: Yudhishthira describing to Arjuna how Abhimanyu was slayed within the vyuha and how Jayadratha blocked their entry in the vyuha. Arjuna takes a vow to slay Jayadratha next day unless Jayadratha flees or surrenders. If unable to slay, Arjuna will enter fire and attain the state of Adharmic people.

Ch 74: Jayadratha assured by Duryodhana and Drona: Coming to know of the vow of Arjuna, Jayadratha becoming fearful and contemplating to escape. Duryodhana and Drona assuring him.

Ch 75: Sri Krishna telling about rashness of Arjuna: Sri Krishna telling Arjuna that his vow was an act of rashness. Sri Krishna telling about the special protection to Jayadratha by six car-warriors.

Ch 76: Arjuna exhibiting confidence: Arjuna exhibiting confidence that he will be able to slay Jayadratha.

Ch 77: Sri Krishna comforting Subhadra: Sri Krishna comforting Subhadra.

Ch 78: Sri Krishna comforting Subhadra: Subhadra lamenting. Sri Krishna comforting her.

Ch 79: Worship of Lord Shiva: Sri Krishna making Arjuna worship Lord Shiva at night. Sri Krishna speaking with Daruka.

Ch 80: Dream of Arjuna about Lord Shiva: Arjuna having a dream where Sri Krishna comes to him and tells him to obtain the Pashupata astra from Lord Shiva. Then both, Arjuna and Sri Krishna (Nara-Narayana) going to Himalayas and propitiating Mahadeva (Bhava) with Stuthi.

Ch 81: Dream of Arjuna about getting Pashupata astra: Arjuna in dream getting the Pashupata astra from Lord Shiva.

Ch 82: Preparation of Yudhishthira: Description of the morning preparation of Yudhishthira. Yudhishthira giving dana. Sri Krishna coming to meet him.

Ch 83: Sri Krishna assuring Yudhishthira: Various Pandava generals coming to meet Yudhishthira. Yudhishthira extolling Sri Krishna and praying him to make the vow of Arjuna successful. Sri Krishna assuring Yudhishthira.

Ch 84: Arjuna telling about his dream: Arjuna entering and telling about his dream. Everyone becoming happy and saluting Lord Shiva. Arjuna setting out for battle. Arjuna telling Satyaki to protect Yudhishthira. Arjuna seeing auspicious portents.
