Bhima slaying eight sons of Dhritarashtra (Sunabha, Aparajita, Kundadhara, Panditaka, Vishalaksha, Mahodara, Adityaketu and Bahvasin). Duryodhana lamenting before Bhishma. Bhishma saying that neither he nor Drona will survive in this battle, nor the other sons of Dhritarashtra. He had earlier warned Duryodhana about this. Therefore, just keep on fighting with determination.

Ch 96: [Day 8] Prowess of Bhagadatta: [Day 8] Duryodhana asking Bhishma to subdue Ghatotkacha. Bhishma telling him to send Bhagadatta. Bhagadatta fighting with Bhima, Ghatotkacha and Pandava army and afflicting them.

Ch 97: Bhima slaying nine sons of Dhritarashtra: [Day 8] Arjuna expressing sorrow due to the death of Iravan and realizing the evil effects of war. Bhima slaying nine sons of Dhritarashtra (Vyudoraska, Kundalin, Anadhrishti, Kundabheda, Vairata, Dirghalochana, Dirghabahu and Kanakdhwaja). Fight between Abhimanyu and Ambashtha. End of the 8th day's battle.

Ch 98: Duryodhana and Bhishma: Duryodhana consulting Karna about their inability to conquer the Pandavas. Karna telling Duryodhana to ask Bhishma to lay down his arms so that he will go to the battlefield and conquer the Pandavas. Duryodhana telling Bhishma to either kill Pandavas or give permission for Karna to fight.

Ch 99: [Day 9] Bhishma taking vow of a fierce battle: Bhishma telling about the great prowess of Arjuna and recollecting the earlier incidents where Arjuna had defeated the Kauravas. Bhishma telling that Arjuna protected by Vasudeva cannot be conquered. Bhishma telling Duryodhana to show his manliness and fight with the Pandavas. He will however slay the Panchalas and Somakas except Shikhandi. Bhishma taking vow of a fierce battle next day which men shall remember. [Day 9] Next day, Duryodhana preparing for protection of Bhishma, specially from Shikhandi. Arjuna telling the Pandavas to place Shikhandi before Bhishma. Arjuna telling that he will protect Shikhandi.

Ch 100: [Day 9] Fierce battle. Portents of great destruction: [Day 9] Kauravas creating the Sarvatobhadra Vyuha. Fierce battle. Portents of great destruction through jackals, vultures, crows, dogs, meteors etc.

Ch 101: [Day 9] Abhimanyu wrecking havoc, Alambusha: [Day 9] Abhimanyu wrecking havoc on the Kauravas. Duryodhana sending Alambusha. The Rakshashas wrecking havoc on the army of Pandavas. Fight between the Rakshashas and five sons of Draupadi. Rakshasas swooning for sometime but regaining consciousness subduing the sons of Draupadi. Abhimanyu facing Alambusha.

Ch 102: [Day 9] Abhimanyu defeating Alambusha: [Day 9] Fight between Abhimanyu and Alambusha. Abhimanyu defeating Alambusha. Alambusha creating a veil of darkness through Maya. Abhimanyu breaking that Maya with Bhashkara astra and all other Mayas of Alambusha. Alambusha fleeing. Arjuna fighting with Bhishma and Kripacharya. Satyaki fighting with Ashwatthama and Dronacharya.

Ch 103: [Day 9] Prowess of Arjuna and Bhima: [Day 9] Arjuna fighting with Dronacharya and Susharma. Arjuna discharging Vayavya astra. Drona countered it with Shaila astra. Bhima slaying the division of elephants. Elephants running away and compelling the Kaurava army to retreat.

Ch 104: [Day 9] Fierce battle, great destruction: [Day 9] Bhishma and Kaurava army fighting with Pandava army. Fierce battle, bloody battlefield and great destruction.

Ch 105: [Day 9] Prowess of Arjuna and Bhima: [Day 9] Arjuna fighting with Susharma and slaying the Trigatarta army. Abhimanyu defeating Chitrasena. Dronacharya defeating Drupada. Bhima defeating Bahlika. Fight between Bhishma and Satyaki.

Ch 106: [Day 9] Duryodhana sending ten thousand horses: [Day 9] Duryodhana telling Dushshasana to protect Bhishma. Duryodhana sending ten thousand horses to check the Pandavas. Yudhishthira, Nakula and Sahadeva defeating cavalry of Shakuni. Shalya fighting with them.

Ch 107: [Day 9] Bhishma wrecking havoc, Sri Krishna coming to slay Bhishma: [Day 9] Bhishma wrecking havoc on the Pandava army. Pandavas fleeing. Sri Krishna proceeding to slay Bhishma. Arjuna restricting him. End of 9th day's battle.

Ch 108: Yudhishthira asking Bhishma the way to slay him: Yudhishthira in despair consulting Sri Krishna seeing the destruction of Pandava army by Bhishma. Sri Krishna telling Yudhishthira to employ him to fight so that He will slay Bhishma. Yudhishthira telling that he does not want to falsify the vow of Sri Krishna (declaring not to fight). On the other hand he will consult Bhishma who said that he will give good counsel. At night, the Pandavas go to Bhishma for asking him the way to slay him. Bhishma telling them to put Shikhandi before them and then overthrow him.

Ch 109: [Day 10] Bhishma wrecking havoc: [Day 10] Arjuna proceeding with Shikhandi in front of them. Pandava brothers making the Kauravas flee. Seeing this, Bhishma wrecking havoc on the Pandavas. Shikhandi piercing Bhishma with arrows. Bhishma saying he will not fight with him (or her). Arjuna instigating Shikhandi to fight with Bhishma who will not take up arms against him.

Ch 110: [Day 10] Bhishma taking vow: [Day 10] Arjuna and others destroying the Kaurava army. Duyodhana consulting Bhishma. Bhishma taking a vow that on that day he will either slay the Pandavas or lay down his life. Thus he will liquidate the debt of Duryodhana. Bhishma slaying ten thousand elephants and ten thousand horses and hundred thousand warriors. Duryodhana protecting Bhishma with his troops.

Ch 111: [Day 10] Pandavas jointly rushing towards Bhishma: [Day 10] Arjuna telling Shikhandi to confront Bhishma without fear. The Pandavas jointly rushing towards Bhishma. The Kauravas trying to protect Bhishma and check the Pandavas. Dushshasana resisting Arjuna from advancing towards Bhishma.

Ch 112: [Day 10] Kauravas resisting Pandavas from advancing towards Bhishma: [Day 10] Rakshasa Alambusha resisting Satyaki from advancing towards Bhishma. Then Bhagadatta resisting Satyaki. Sudakshina resisting Abhimanyu from advancing towards Bhishma. Ashwathama resisting Drupada and Virata from advancing towards Bhishma. Kripacharya resisting Sahadeva from advancing towards Bhishma. Ch 114: [Day 10] Bhima single-handedly fighting with ten Maharathis: [Day 10] Shalya, Kritavarma, Kripacharya, Chitrasena, Vikarna, Bhagadatta, Jayadratha, Vinda, Anuvinda and Durmarshana attacking Bhima. Bhima single-handedly fighting and injuring these ten Maharathis. Arjuna arriving. Duryodhana sending Susharma to fight with Bhima and Arjuna.

Ch 115: [Day 10] Prowess of Bhima and Arjuna: [Day 10] Great prowess of Bhima and Arjuna in repelling the Kauravas. Then all Pandava generals rushing towards Bhishma.

Ch 116: [Day 10] Bhishma telling Yudhishthira to slay him: [Day 10] Fierce battle between Kauravas and Pandavas. Bhishma slaying Pandava army by thousands and thousands. Then Bhishma deciding not to slay any further, telling Yudhishthira that he has been disgusted with his body that have slayed numerous creatures. He asked Yudhishthira for the favour of slaying him placing Srinjayas and Panchalas before himself. Yudhishthira commanding to conquer Bhishma. Arjuna and Shikhandi with other Pandava generals advancing. Kauravas resisting them.

Ch 117: [Day 10] Shikhandi attacking Bhishma, Bhishma wrecking havoc: [Day 10] Duryodhana fighting with Abhimanyu. Ashwathama fighting with Satyaki. Fight between other generals. Arjuna reaching Bhishma with Shikhandi. Shikhandi attacking Bhishma. Bhishma in rage slaying fourteen thousand car-warriors of Somakas. Then no car-warriors dared to confront Bhishma except Arjuna with Shikhandi.

Ch 118: [Day 10] Shikhandi attacking Bhishma, Arjuna defeating Kauravas: [Day 10] Shikhandi attacking Bhishma with arrows. Bhishma not confronting Shikhandi. Arjuna telling Shikhandi to slay Bhishma. Prowess of Dushshasana in resisting Arjuna and Pandavas and protecting Bhishma. The arrows of Shikhandi not causing pain to Bhishma. Kaurava generals jointly attacking Arjuna. Arjuna defeating them with celestial weapons. Arjuna defeating Dushshasana, Shalya, Kripa and others.

Ch 119: [Day 10] Pandavas rushing towards Bhishma: [Day 10] Huge carnage in the war. All rules broken to fight with similar enemies (like elephant-riders with elephant-riders). Each killing other indiscriminately. Srinjayas rushing towards Bhishma. On the tenth day, Bhishma slaying ten-thousand elephants, thousands of car-warriors, fourteen thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand horses. Bhishma slaying Shatanika. Arjuna and other Pandavas rushing towards Bhishma. Bhishma repulsing them and slaying seven great car-warriors of Drupada.

Ch 120: [Day 10] Arjuna making Bhishma fall, sages coming: [Day 10] Pandavas jointly attacking Bhishma with Shikhandi and Arjuna in front. Drona, Kritavarma, Jayadratha, Bhurishravas, Shala, Shalya and Bhagadatta jointly attacking Arjuna. Satyaki, Bhima, Dhrishtadyumna, Virata, Drupada Ghatotkacha and Abhimanyu resisting them. Arjuna cutting the bows of Bhishma repeatedly. Bhishma thinking that he can slay the Pandavas if Krishna is not protecting them. Bhishma thinking that the time of his departure has arrived. Rishis and Vasus in the firmament approving this and telling Bhishma to withdraw his heart from battle. Bhishma hearing celestial drums and feeling shower of flowers. Arjuna making Bhishma fall from his chariot. Bhishma laying on the bed of arrows. Devi Ganga sending sages in the guise of Hamshas (Swans). Bhishma keeping his life waiting for Uttarayana.

Ch 121: Pandavas and Kauravas paying homage to Bhishma: Pandavas and Kauravas stop fighting and coming to pay homage to Bhishma. Bhishma asking for a pillow to rest his hanging head. Kings bringing soft pillows but Bhishma asking Arjuna to make a pillow.

Ch 122: Arjuna making pillow of arrows for Bhishma: Arjuna making a pillow for Bhishma with arrows. Many physicians coming but Bhishma dismissing them. Conversation between Yudhishthira and Sri Krishna. Yudhishthira telling Sri Krishna that victory comes only through the grace of Krishna and defeat similarly from his wrath.

Ch 123: Arjuna giving celestial water to Bhishma: Next day, Pandavas and Kauravas coming to pay respects to Bhishma. Bhishma feeling great pain due to the arrows. Bhishma asking for water. Many kings bringing cool water. Bhishma rejecting them and asking Arjuna to provide water to relieve the burning sensation and thirst. Arjuna pierced the ground near Bhishma with Parjanya astra and brought out cool jet of water with celestial taste and fragrance. Bhishma praising Arjuna and telling Duryodhana to establish peace. Duryodhana refusing to act on it.

Ch 124: Karna secretly meeting Bhishma: Karna secretly meeting Bhishma. Bhishma welcoming him and saying that he does not harbour any malice towards Karna. He used harsh words against Karna only to reduce his arrogance. He is aware of the valour of Karna who is actually Kunti's son. Bhishma telling about reconciliation to Karna. But Karna saying he cannot disappoint Duryodhana and would like to fight with the Pandavas. Karna asking the permission to fight from Bhishma. Bhishma giving permission telling him to fight without malice and attain the regions of Kshatriyas through the instrumentality of Arjuna.
