Thirunelvayil - Uchinatheshwarar Temple (Sivapuri)

• Meditation: I meditate on Lord Uchinatheshwarar and Devi Kanakambikai at Thirunelvayil.

• Greatness: The Uchinatheshwarar Temple of Thirunelvayil is a Paadal Petra Sthalam whose glory was sung by the Nayanmars.

• Puranic Events:

1. Lord Shiva & Thirugnana Sambandar: Lord Shiva provided food to Thirugnana Sambandar and his party during noon time in the guise of a temple priest.
- Note: Since Lord Shiva provided food during noon time, he is known as Uchinatheshwarar (Uchi means Noon and Eashwarar refers to Lord in Tamil). In Sanskrit the Lord is known as Madhyaneshwarar (Madhyanya means middle in Sanskrit and refer to midday). The place is known as Thirunelvayil due to the presence of sprawling paddy fields during the earlier times (Nel Voyil means sprawling paddy fields at the entrance of the village).

2. Lord Shiva & sage Agastya: Sage Agastya is said to have worshipped Lord Shiva in this place.

3. Lord Shiva & sage Kanva: Sage Kanva is said to have worshipped Lord Shiva in this place.

• Location: Thirunelvayil Uchinatheshwarar Temple is located in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. The temple is near the Annamalai University (2 km) campus and can be visited from Chidambaram (4 km).
