Then Thirumullaivayil - Mullaivananathar Temple (Then Thirumullaivasal)

• Meditation: I meditate on Lord Mullaivananathar and Devi Satyananda Soundari at Then Thirumullaivayil.

• Greatness: The Mullaivananathar Temple of Then Thirumullaivayil is a Paadal Petra Sthalam whose glory was sung by the Nayanmars.

• Puranic Events:

1. Lord Shiva & Devi Parvati: Lord Shiva imparted the meaning of the Panchakshara Mantra to Devi Parvati as a guru.
- Note: Due to this, there is no "Palli Arai" rituals in this temple.

2. Lord Shiva & king Killi Valavan: King Killi Valavan discovered the Shiva Lingam hidden within the Mullai bushes and got the darshan of Lord Shiva.
- Events: King Killi Valavan was suffering from a skin disease. The physicians advised him to take a bath in the sea at this place. When the king came to this place, the legs of his horses got entangled in the Mullai creepers. The king tried to disentangle them with his sword and saw blood flowing out from underneath the creeper bushes. The king was shocked and discovered a Shiva Linga bleeding. The king tried to end his life due to this sin, when Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati gave him darshan and protected him. The king later built a temple in the place.
- Note: There is a visible scar on the Shiva Lingam due to this incident.

3. Lord Shiva & Chandra deva: Chandra deva worshipped Lord Shiva here and was cured of his illness.
- Note: The tank created by Chandra deva is known as Chandra Teertham.

• Location: Then Thirumullaivayil Mullaivananathar Temple is located in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. The temple can be visited from Sirkazhi (14 km), Chidambaram (32 km) and Mayiladuthurai (36 km).
