Lord Varaha telling about His mantra and meditation

(Skanda Purana - Venkatachala Mahatmya - 2)

• Dharani Devi asking the Lord about His mantra: When Lord Varaha and Dharani Devi were abiding in Narayandri (Venkatachala) in the Krita Yuga of Vaivasta Manvantara, Dharani Devi asked the Lord about His mantra which propitiated the Lord. Lord Varaha told about His secret mantra:
Om Namah Lord Varahaya Dharanyuddharanaya Ca Swaha
which means: Salutations to Lord Varaha who rescued the Earth. The mantra should only be communicated to a devotee. Samkarshana is its sage, Lord Varaha is the deity, Pangkti is the metre, Sri is the bija. The mantra should be chanted four thousand times after getting initiated, and homa should be performed with rice cooked in milk along with honey and ghee.

• Lord Varaha telling about His meditation: Lord Varaha should be meditated along with Dharani Devi seated on His left thigh. He is having the lustre of pure crystal. His eyes are like red lotus petals. His face is like a boar. His appearance is gentle. He has four arms. He has a crown. His chest is bearing the mark of Srivatsa. He is holding shankha and chakra in His hands. One of His hands is showing the abhaya mudra. He is wearing reddish-yellow clothes. He is adorned with red ornaments. He is sitting on a lotus over the body of Sesha on the back of Kurma. After meditating on the Lord in this manner the devotee should chant the mantra one hundred and eight times.

• Dharani Devi asking about those who chanted this mantra: Dharani Devi then asked about those who chanted this mantra in the past and were benefited by it. Lord Varaha told about the cases of Dharma, Indra and Ananta.
