Creation of Manikarnika in Kashi

Kashi: Creation of Manikarnika:

(Skanda Purana - Kashi Khanda - 26)

Kashi, Varanasi district, Uttar Pradesh Kashi Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi district, Uttar PradeshMeditation: I meditate on Kashi which bestows liberation.

Lord Vishnu creating Manikarnika:

1. Lord Shiva had a desire to create another being who will look after the creation. Lord Vishnu manifested from his left limb.

2. Lord Vishnu performed severe penance after digging a pond with his Chakra and filling it with his sweat drops. (Chakrapushkarini)

3. Lord Shiva shook his head with serpents seeing the penance of Lord Vishnu and a Mani fell down from his ear. Therefore, Chakrapushkarini also became known as Manikarnika.
