Unselfishness

Swami Vivekananda

#. Unselfishness is God.

#. Selfishness is the devil incarnate in every man. Every bit of self, bit by bit, is devil. Take off self by one side and God enters by the other.

#. Are you unselfish? That is the question. If you are, you will be perfect without reading a single religious book, without going into a single church or temple.

#. The difference between God and the devil is in nothing except in unselfishness and selfishness.

#. Truth, purity and unselfishness---whereever these are present, there is no power below or above the sun to crush the possessor thereof. Equipped with these, one individual is able to face the whole universe in opposition.

#. If you seek your own salvation, you will go to hell. It is the salvation of others that you must seek and even if you have to go to hell in working for others, that is worth more than to gain heaven by seeking your own salvation.

#. Try to be pure and unselfish---that is the whole of religion.

#. Unselfishness is more paying, only people have not the patience to practise it.

#. Our best work is done, our greatest influence is exerted when we are without thought of self.

Green Corner:

Om, May there be Peace in Heaven,
May there be Peace in the Sky,
May there be Peace in the Earth,
May there be Peace in the Water,
May there be Peace in the Plants,
May there be Peace in the Trees,
May there be Peace in the Gods in the various Worlds,
May there be Peace in Brahman,
May there be Peace in All,
May there be Peace Indeed within Peace,
Giving Me the Peace which Grows within Me,
Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.

(Shanti Mantra of Upanishad)

Preserve Nature,
And Nature will preserve Us,
Plant Trees,
And make our planet Green.
