  • Devi Mahatmyam (DM):
    • Brahma extols the Devi to break the yoganidra of Vishnu. This is the Tantrokta Ratri Suktam. Vishnu slays Madhu and Kaitabha. (DM ch1)
    • Devi Durga manifests from the combined powers of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and other Devas. The Devas adorn the Devi with various weapons. (DM ch2)
    • Devi Durga slays demon Mahishasura along with his entire army. The Devas eulogize the Devi with Stuti. This is the Sakradi Stuti. (DM ch2 to ch4)
    • Devas ousted by demons Shumbha and Nishumbha; They invoke the Devi with Stuti. This is the Aparajita Stuti. (DM ch5)
    • Devi Kaushika issues from the body of Parvati. Parvati turns dark as Kalika. Shumbha sends messenger to get Devi Kaushiki. Devi asks for a battle with Shumbha and Nishumbha. (DM ch5)
    • Ambika reduces demon Dhumralochana to ashes by a mere Humkara. (DM ch6)
    • Devi Kalika issues forth from the fierce frown of Ambika. She slays demons Chanda and Munda and becomes Chamunda. (DM ch7)
    • Matrikas issues forth from the bodies of the Devas and joins Chandika. They are Brahmani, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasimhi and Aindri. Devi sends Shiva as messenger and came to be known as Shivaduti. Devi Chandika and Kali together vanquishes demon Raktabija. (DM ch8)
    • Devi slays demon Nishumbha in the battle. (DM ch9)
    • Devi slays demon Shumbha in the battle. (DM ch10)
    • The Devas eulogize the Devi. This is Narayani Stuti. Devi tells about Her future incarnations as Vindhyavashini being born from Yashoda, as Raktadantika, as Shakambari, as Bhimadevi and as Bhramari. (DM ch11)
